Apple's Innovation Crisis

Apple's recent product launches have failed to captivate audiences like before. Despite maintaining quality, the tech giant struggles to provide compelling reasons for consumers to choose their offerings. This shift, coupled with a focus on shareholder confidence, has led to a perceived loss of innovation and consumer engagement.

Apple Needs a Leader Like Steve Jobs

Since the beginning of 2024, Apple has clearly shown its determination to venture into new product categories to create more diverse revenue streams.

However, from canceling the car project to launching Apple Vision Pro, the company is struggling to introduce its next big product. In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg expert Mark Gurman suggests that Apple might not succeed in this effort. CEO Tim Cook's approach to maintaining shareholder confidence in Apple seems to be losing its effectiveness.

According to Gurman, while Apple can rely on revenue from iPhone and accessories for some time, to maintain its competitive position against other tech giants, the company needs to innovate and provide compelling reasons for consumers to choose their products. However, Apple hasn't managed to do this in recent years. It's not because their new products lack quality, but because Apple no longer connects with consumers like before, even though their products maintain excellent quality.

Since Steve Jobs passed away, current CEO Tim Cook has implemented a strategy aimed at maintaining shareholder confidence, but this approach appears to be losing its effectiveness. Although this strategy helped Apple maintain success for a long time, after designer Jony Ive's departure in 2019, many Apple products began showing signs of stagnation.

Apple desperately needs a new "Steve Jobs" figure. Jobs wasn't just the face of Apple; he was someone who convinced millions of users to try the company's products through his unique approach to design and customer experience. The image of Jobs holding a chair on stage to defend his viewpoint remains vivid in many people's minds. Although Apple's current products are still impressive, the company seems to have lost its ability to convince consumers. Even though Vision Pro is a technological marvel, it sits forgotten on shelves. Consumers have also shown disappointment with Apple Intelligence and the upcoming smart home center, while iPhone mini and Plus models haven't met sales expectations. Currently, Apple is experimenting with new designs for the iPhone 17 Air and researching the development of an "iPad robot."

The problem is that all these products still can't answer a simple but important question: "What problems do they solve?"

If Apple can't find a leader capable of reconnecting with the company's legacy, their new product categories might continue to face difficulties in the future.
