Opening his post, Mr. Do Cao Bao quoted observations from Mr. Narayana Murthy, founding chairman of Infosys and father of India's software industry, who is also one of Fortune's 12 greatest entrepreneurs of our time, during his visit to Vietnam in May 2024 on VTV4.
Mr. Narayana Murthy stated: "In Asia, besides India, it's not Japan, Singapore, or Malaysia, but only Vietnam that has managed to create software companies with billion-dollar export revenues."
Mr. Bao continued, noting that while many Vietnamese people dismissed Mr. Murthy's comments as mere courtesy, the reality speaks for itself through objective data and actual figures.
According to Companies Marketcap, Vietnam ranks 5th globally among countries with the largest IT service companies by market capitalization in the top 50, following India, USA, Japan, and Saudi Arabia, while surpassing Australia, South Korea, UK, Spain, Denmark, Israel, Norway, Germany, Canada, and Italy.
Furthermore, the FPT leader shared a list of the world's top 16 IT service countries (considering companies within the top 50 largest companies by market capitalization):
- India: 8 companies, including TCS with $181.69 billion, Infosys with $99.82 billion, Wipro with $39.34 billion, LTI Mindtree with $21.67 billion, and Tech Mahindra with $18.25 billion.
- USA: 17 companies, including ADP with $118.7 billion, Cognizant with $39.41 billion, IQVIA with $34.26 billion, Booz Allen Hamilton with $16.53 billion, and APAM System with $13.99 billion.
- Japan: 7 companies, including Fujitsu with $31.94 billion, NTT Data with $25.56 billion, and Otsuka with $8.8 billion.
- France: 3 companies, with Capgemini at $27.03 billion.
- Saudi Arabia: 3 companies, with Arabian Internet & Communications Service at $8.73 billion.
- Vietnam: 1 company, FPT with $8.49 billion.
Countries ranked 7th to 16th include Australia, South Korea, UK, Spain, Denmark, Israel, Norway, Germany, Canada, and Italy, each having one company.
Mr. Bao mentioned that 34 unlisted companies have market capitalizations lower than FPT, based on data from December 19, 2024.
Among the world's top 16 countries by market capitalization in IT services, Vietnam ranks 5th. Notably, Vietnam and India are the only developing nations in this list, while all others are wealthy, developed economies.
Finally, Mr. Bao suggests that this could be one of the main reasons why Mr. Jensen Huang - Chairman of Nvidia Corporation and Nvidia itself chose Vietnam as their second home (starting with the establishment of an AI R&D center), similar to how Samsung selected Vietnam as their manufacturing and research base.
