Boss Hoang Nam Tien: 'If you want to do big things, turn off your phone, use less social media, and pay less attention to online comments'
In the context of the 4.0 Revolution, many traditional jobs are at risk of completely disappearing. Jobs like taxi drivers and salespeople, which have existed for a long time, now face fierce competition from modern technology and artificial intelligence. But it's not just manual labor jobs; even high-level professional positions that require extensive knowledge and years of experience are not safe from this threat.
The constant development of technology, with the explosion of smart applications and systems, is gradually changing the way we work, posing a big challenge for the global workforce. Looking ahead, we can see a future where people must constantly improve their skills and adapt to technological changes if they don't want to be left behind in this race.
Finance and Accounting will be replaced
Discussing this issue, during a talkshow "Gen Z - Jobs accurate to the millimeter" in July 2023 with hundreds of FPT Polytechnic students, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien (born 1969, Hanoi) - former Chairman of FPT Software, FPT Telecom, FPT Corporation, currently Vice Chairman of the FPT University Council, shared his views on professions at risk of disappearing in the future.
Specifically, Mr. Tien shared FPT's own story: "Five years ago, when planning the training program, FPT Polytechnic removed the Finance - Accounting major. It was a controversial decision at the time," Mr. Hoang Nam Tien recalled.
"Many people asked why FPT doesn't train Finance - Accounting. Today is the answer. By 2030, those who study accounting and finance are predicted to be the ones who will lose their jobs the most," Mr. Tien said.
Also talking about career issues, at the Fschools Open STEAM Day 2024 science and technology fair, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien also mentioned industries at risk of being replaced by robots and AI in the near future.
Specifically, Mr. Tien shared: "If in the past people only talked about the unemployed, today they talk about useless people. They are trained, educated, have worked for many years and have a very good spirit. But unfortunately, in the very near future, no more than 5-6 years from now, they will be replaced by robots and AI". He gave examples of the appearance of ChatGPT and Gemini, an AI developed by Google, as clear evidence of this trend.
According to him, 85% of people currently working in accounting will lose their jobs in the coming time. The remaining 15% will become extremely valuable. He warned that even "accountants with 20 years of experience, who work very diligently and carefully, will also lose their jobs" due to the strong development of technology. This is a strong warning for anyone working in easily automated industries, and he emphasized the importance of continuously improving skills and updating knowledge to adapt to the digital age.
The battle of professions
According to Mr. Tien, the strong change in technology is affecting the labor market in ways never seen before in history. In the talkshow "Gen Z - Jobs accurate to the millimeter", Mr. Tien especially emphasized the appearance and development of quantum computing, and predicted that this will be an important keyword in the near future.
He explained why quantum computers are so important because they can solve complex problems that would take us thousands of years to research and answer. These problems include difficult cryptographic calculations, encrypting chip card passwords for bank accounts. However, quantum computers only need a maximum of 200 seconds to complete them. This will cause a comprehensive change in many economic fields, leading to a major change in the labor structure. Many professions may disappear or change completely due to the influence of this advanced technology.
Mr. Tien also predicted that by around 2025, those with knowledge of quantum computing will be valued and utilized, because in Vietnam there are currently no schools training in this field and abroad only very few schools have started to teach this subject. All these changes stem from technological progress and human creativity, creating a new and challenging world for the global workforce.
"When we join an organization, we often get asked: 'Are you good at Word, Excel, PowerPoint?' But in the future, the question will be: 'Are you skilled in AI and Big Data?' The world is changing fast like that," Mr. Tien shared.
The Vice Chairman of FPT University Council advises that today, the world is changing rapidly. If we don't actively improve ourselves, learn throughout life to become better versions of ourselves each day, we will quickly become ordinary people and may even risk becoming mediocre, no longer valued by society in the future.
Therefore, constantly striving to become a better version every day is very necessary. This not only helps you stay relevant in your field, but also ensures that you can adapt and grow in a world where technology is constantly changing.
