TikTok faces a ban in the US as Apple and Google are asked to remove the app. The "end days" of TikTok are approaching, as the platform's app could be deleted from the App Store and Google Play in the US if ByteDance doesn't sell it before January 19, 2025.
The US government is increasing pressure on ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, forcing them to divest from this popular short-video sharing app. The CCP Committee has sent letters to Apple and Google, reminding them of their legal duty to remove TikTok from their app stores if ByteDance doesn't follow the law.
TikTok is getting closer to a complete ban in the US.
The main reason for this situation is national security concerns. US lawmakers believe TikTok and ByteDance could pose risks to America because of their connections to China. They think Chinese government might be able to access US user data.
In April 2023, President Biden signed a bill requiring ByteDance to either sell TikTok or accept a ban in the US. Although they had 233 days to negotiate and find solutions, ByteDance hasn't reached any divestment agreement that meets US government requirements.
In the letter, CCP emphasized that Google and Apple must follow the law and remove TikTok from their app stores before January 19 next year if ByteDance doesn't sell the app.
The current situation is very tense and time is running out. ByteDance has just over a month to find a solution. If they don't, TikTok will be banned in the US, affecting more than 170 million users in this country.
The TikTok ban will greatly impact the content creator community, who have invested lots of effort in building large followings on this platform. They will need to look for alternative platforms to continue their activities.
