With this budget, the family wants to buy an used motobike. They worry because their child is new to the city and not familiar with things there. Also, they have thought about their child working as a Grab driver after starting school. So, they think buying a used motobike is ... safer.

According to them, they want their child to work part-time for experience, even though they don't need money.

Should Students Work as Grab Drivers?

Many people say this is not a good idea for a new student.

They think the student should try other jobs first. Some people say that if a student chooses to be a Grab driver right away, it means considering this as the most preferred part-time job. This might make them miss other chances to learn and grow for their future career.

Recently, a TikTok video said, students shouldn't be Grab drivers because "if you drive Grab, you'll drive Grab forever."

The video maker thinks being Grab driver doesn't give students useful skills for their future jobs. After four years of being a Grab driver, students might not have good work experience when they finish school. So, they might have to keep being a Grab driver forever.

Many people agree with this idea, but some think it's too strict. They say being a Grab driver can teach students some good things. That's why many students and even some graduates choose this job.

Mr. Pham Thai Son, from a University in Ho Chi Minh, says working part-time is good for new students to earn money and learn. But they should think carefully about being a Grab driver. Being a Grab driver lets you choose your work time and earn money quickly. It can also teach some skills. But for students, it can be dangerous and doesn't help them learn special job skills.

Mr. Son suggests that other jobs that might be better:

1. Tutoring: This job pays well, and helps students remember what they learn in school.

2. Sales or restaurant work: These jobs teach how to talk to people and work in teams.

3. Freelance work: Good for students who can write, design, or do computer work.

4. Part-time work in companies related to their studies: This helps students learn real job skills.

Mr. Son says students should choose jobs that help them learn new skills or know more about their future job. They should also make sure the job doesn't affect their studies.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem, from a student support center, agrees. She thinks families should help students find jobs like tutoring, working in restaurants, or helping at events. These jobs teach social skills. She warns that there are already too many Grab drivers, so the pay is not as good as before. Also, driving all the time might make students tired and affect their studies.
