This is a recommendation related to IT recruitment made by Navigos Search - a leading recruitment brand for mid-level and senior personnel in Vietnam on August 8, in the labor market report for the first 6 months of 2024.

According to Navigos Search, at the end of 2023, the global IT industry went through a big wave of layoffs, with over 262,000 employees losing their jobs, mainly from large tech companies like Meta, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc. The main reason was the rapid growth after the Covid-19 pandemic leading to over-hiring and inefficient operations.

However, the job market in this industry quickly stabilized again in the first 6 months of 2024, with some areas like blockchain, AI (artificial intelligence), internet of things showing many positive signs.

Although there was a slight impact from the global layoff wave, according to Navigos Search, the digital transformation needs of domestic businesses and investment from foreign projects in Vietnam are factors creating a favorable environment for the IT industry to continue developing in the coming time.

Compared to the second half of 2023, the recruitment demand for experienced professionals in this industry has decreased slightly, but the demand for management positions has increased.

According to observations from Navigos Search, the IT-telecom labor market still has the highest recruitment demand for experienced personnel (accounting for 77.3%) to meet the specific requirements of each project.

Choosing an experienced team also ensures the long-term strategy of businesses in sustainable development and industry competitiveness. For management positions (13.4%), other positions (7.45%) and director, C-level positions (1.85%) in the IT-telecom industry still account for a significant part of the total recruitment demand.

Increasing recruitment demand in many fields

The report states that in 2024, the IT-telecom labor market is expected to continue strong growth with increasing recruitment demand in fields such as: artificial intelligence (AI), data science and cybersecurity. Businesses and candidates will have many opportunities as well as face many challenges in this context.

New job positions such as large language model (LLM) engineers, natural language processing (NLP) engineers and AI ethics experts are emerging strongly.

With the increase in cyber threats, the demand for cybersecurity experts is also rising sharply. Positions such as network security analyst, network systems engineer and encryption specialist are becoming more important than ever.

Many organizations, especially in the finance, healthcare and energy sectors, are investing heavily in cybersecurity to protect their data and systems. The development of connected devices, internet of things (IoT) and cloud computing also creates many challenges and opportunities in this field.

In the context of rapid development of new technologies, experts recommend that in the last 6 months of the year, IT-telecom candidates need to focus on developing some essential skills to meet the increasing market demands. Mastering artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies is extremely important, as companies are actively applying these technologies to optimize operations and improve customer service.

Additionally, some skills are also given more attention such as: network security skills in the context of increasing cyber security threats, especially in the telecommunications field; cloud management skills are becoming increasingly necessary as many organizations switch to cloud solutions to improve efficiency and flexibility.

Additionally, data analysis skills and blockchain knowledge are highly valued in IT and telecom fields, as they help improve decision-making and security.

Taking training courses and getting network security certifications will maintain competitiveness, helping candidates meet new market challenges well.

Professional networks also play an important role, such as building a personal profile on LinkedIn is very necessary. Also, candidates can join real projects to increase hiring chances and improve salaries.

"For job opportunities, candidates should spend time learning about potential companies and technologies they are using to be better prepared. At the same time, follow the latest news and trends in IT and telecom or seek expert advice to better understand the market and opportunities opening up," the Navigos Search expert emphasized.

To meet the growing recruitment needs in AI and data science, according to Navigos Search, companies need to be proactive in finding and attracting new talent. One effective way is to build close relationships with universities and research institutes.

Partnering with educational institutions not only helps companies access potential candidates but also creates opportunities to organize seminars and career events to increase the company's presence in the academic community.

These activities will help companies reach young talent and create a high-quality workforce in AI and data science.
