Researchers at Tulane University in the United States have published the results of a survey about coffee drinking habits of 40,725 adults over a 10-year period. According to the findings, people who drink coffee in the morning have a 16% lower risk of death from any cause and a 31% lower risk of death from heart disease compared to non-coffee drinkers. However, the statistics show no reduction in risk for those who drink coffee throughout the day.

The research team states that this is the first study to explore the connection between coffee consumption timing and its health impacts. These findings suggest that not only is the decision to drink coffee important, but the timing of consumption during the day is also crucial. This is an observational study, so it doesn't focus on finding direct cause-and-effect relationships but rather aims to identify clear connections between coffee consumption timing and health outcomes.

Additionally, the researchers adjusted for several factors that affect cardiovascular health and mortality, such as age, gender, physical activity, and sleep habits. However, there might be other factors they haven't considered yet, like genetic factors.

For morning coffee drinkers, the benefits are similar whether they consume a moderate amount (2-3 cups per day) or a high amount (more than 3 cups per day). Those who drink less (fewer than 2 cups per day) experience fewer benefits.

Caffeine is a stimulant, so it can disrupt the body's natural processes during the afternoon and evening.

Drinking coffee in the afternoon or evening can interrupt biological rhythms and hormone levels, including melatonin, a hormone that helps with sleep. This leads to changes in cardiovascular risk factors such as inflammation and blood pressure.

Many previous studies have shown the connection between coffee consumption and health benefits, including prevention of high blood pressure and stroke, increased life expectancy, and reduced risk of certain cancer recurrences.

In reality, coffee contains hundreds of different compounds, and scientists are still studying these substances and their effects on the human body. While waiting for new research findings, you might want to consider reducing your coffee consumption later in the day.

Scientists believe that more research is needed to validate the positive effects of drinking coffee in the morning instead of afternoon and evening. They suggest conducting additional studies with different population groups and performing clinical trials to obtain more accurate results.  This will help better understand how timing of coffee consumption affects different people.
