Canadian singer Celine Dion didn't get paid anything for her amazing performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Opening Ceremony.
So, those kids selling lemonade in your neighborhood on Friday (July 26) actually made more money than one of the world's most famous singers.
The Olympics started with a big show over the weekend. We saw USA's flag carriers, basketball star Lebron James and tennis champion Coco Gauff, sailing down the River Seine with the other 590 American athletes.
The ceremony ended with Dion singing Edith Piaf's 'L'Hymne A L'Amour' from the Eiffel Tower. This was her first performance since she told everyone about her health problem called 'stiff person' syndrome, which made her cancel her world tour.
At first, a well-known US magazine wrongly said that the 56-year-old singer would get $2 million for singing just one song at the start of the games.
We might have believed this big amount of money if the Olympic organizers hadn't said it wasn't true.
The Olympics said: "The performers at the Paris 2024 Games ceremonies won't get paid for their performances. They're doing this for free because they want to be part of a big event for France and for sports. Paris 2024 will pay for all the technical stuff needed for the performances, which is normal."
They also said: "Paris 2024 wants to remind everyone that 96 percent of our money comes from private sources. Public money doesn't pay for the artists."
So, Dion did it for free, and why not? It's a great honor to sing at the world's biggest sports event.
This news comes after the five-time Grammy winner talked about her health problems in her new documentary *I Am: *The film shows upsetting footage of her having a seizure that lasted for minutes, which shocked many viewers.
Dion was told by a therapist that it occurred due to her brain being 'overstimulated' in the recording studio.
So perhaps Dion thought taking the Olympic gig would be a good way to make a bit of history by doing what she loved, despite fears about her health.
.People watching the Opening Ceremony also saw Lady Gaga perform, and she didn't get paid either.
